Bracketology - 2/17/2025

On Saturday, the NCAA Committee revealed their Top 16 teams with one month to go before Selection Sunday. The seed list was not terribly shocking, but it did reveal a few things:

- The SEC will be very well represented in the bracket. Currently, 5 of the top 6 teams in the bracket are in the SEC. It is very likely that the semi-finals of the SEC tournament will have a better seed average than the Final Four.

- Top wins are still the ticket to the top. Houston has amazing metrics, but were the #8 team in the reveal due to a (relative) lack of Q1A wins. They then went out and won at Arizona, immediately adding their best win of the season. On the flip side, Kentucky has solid metrics, but holds wins over Duke, Florida, and Tennessee (x2). This netted them the #10 spot.

- No one metric dominated the rankings. Each metric seemed to carry relatively equal weight, including the new ones.

At the end of the day, what garnered teams high seeds in the past decade will give them a high seed this season. This last month should have some incredible basketball, and we should enjoy every bit of it.
